Change your health in One Minute a Day
I’ve set myself a challenge of transforming the health of thousands of people across Australia… by changing their breakfast routines.
October is the month for reaching out to the one in three Australians* who are eating poor quality foods at their desks or skipping the breakfast meal altogether and inspire them to make a change – and it will take just one minute to prepare.
I’ve joined forces with hundreds of independent health coaches from around the world to raise the awareness of the importance of breakfast.
I always remember my mum and my PE teacher telling me that breakfast was the most important meal of the day and it was not to be missed.
Of course, at that age you never listen to what mum and teachers say. When I trained as a health coach after 20 years in the corporate world missing breakfast and working through lunch, I realised that their nagging was actually scientifically correct.
Many people can’t face breakfast. It just turns their stomach. So, I have a solution. I am challenging people to Shake Up their Octobers by introducing a shake or a smoothie into their lives at breakfast time. A shake could take just one minute to prepare – pour the milk** into a shaker container, add a scoop of quality protein shake powder and shake it up. Grab and go. It is as easy as that.
You could even whizz it up while you were making tea or watching TV the night before. Pop it in the fridge and then grab and go.
Encouraging people to focus on embedding this one daily healthy food habit could be the simple change that they need to achieve a healthy weight, increase energy, mental clarity and work performance easily.
My friend and Nutritional Therapist Helen Barklam is backing this month long campaign to stop people skipping breakfast. When I discussed this with Helen she said: “I have so many clients who just don’t eat breakfast. In fact, many eat at 6 or 7pm the night before, go to bed, wake up and then don’t eat until lunchtime. That’s around 17 hours without food. Some might grab something when they get into the office at around 9am. That’s still 14 hours without any nutrition. Your body needs to be fed so it can function. You wouldn’t dream of taking your car out for a run with no petrol in it. It would break down. Well, in very simple terms, we are the same. We need fuel to function well at work, running around after the kids or studying at school.
“By skipping breakfast we are seriously messing up our metabolism – the system that helps our bodies to function, gives us energy and help us to maintain or lose weight. If that is not working properly, then you are not going to function properly in your day to day life. If you want to lose weight, then it is not going to happen”.
I’m making it super easy for everyone throughout October. I will be posting a shake recipe every single day of the month in a bid to inspire you and those you love to introduce breakfast into your life and actually enjoy it. Follow the daily recipes on Facebook: Think Eat Thrive Forever
